Schaumburg Auf/Ab Gnomonik Single Handed Watch
« on: February 19, 2009, 06:38:38 AM »

Schaumburg Auf/Ab Gnomonik

An overall view of the watch from an oblique angle

Note the single hand used to indicate the hour and minute simultaneously.

The display back showing the hand engraved plates and bridges and blued steel screws.

The balance cock is hand engraved. The Glucydur balance is equipped with Incabloc shock protection and has an index type regulator.

The crown wheel, ratchet wheel and click.

The side of the watch case is decorated with coin edge type groove pattern.

The brand name "Schaumburg Watch" is proudly displayed below the twelve o'clock marker, and below that, in slightly smaller print, is the name of the parent company "Lindburgh & Benson".

A close up of the dial showing the single hand for time reading and the off center small seconds sub dial at nine o'clock position.

The power reserve indicator at the three o'clock position forms a 300 degree arc and indicates the remaining energy stored in the main spring in 10% increments. In the picture the watch has about 70% of power reserve stored in the main spring.

The label "Made in Germany" is clearly printed at the six o'clock position.

The crown is signed "L&B", for Lindburgh & Benson.

The watch comes with a leather strap and tang type buckle. The buckle is matt finished and is signed L&B, for Lindburgh & Benson.

A close up view of the lug. Note the threaded type lug pin.

A review of the watch and additional pictures can be found here.

Calibers SW07.9 and SW07.9.1

Schaumburg Watch Lindburgh & Benson has produced a new series of movement calibers to be debuted at BASELWORLD.

“All mechanical parts and the Unitas 6497 wheels parts as well form the basic components of the watch mechanism according to base caliber SW07.9. and SW07.9.1. We also use a specific Nivaflex main spring made by Schwab Feller which is the well-known manufacturer of main springs for the Haute Horlogerie companies of Switzerland.

Unlike the standard main spring the SF Nivaflex provides a power reserve that is higher and very constant, even exceeding the standard values. Description of the mechanical components of the SW07.9 basic movement as follows:Made in Switzerland, Nivarox II hairspring with Etachron Raquetterie, Nivaflex mainspring, Incabloc Novodiac shock absorber, escapement wheel treated by extreme boundary lubrication, also other Unitas 6497 components. The SW07.9.1 is additionally equipped with a Glycudur gold plated screw balance made in Switzerland.

The major parts of our investment referring to the work components and the Schaumburger three quarter bridge with Schaumburger grinding as well, are manufactured in Germany, i.e. they are “Made in Germany”.

The Schaumburger grinding is characterized by its own distinctive and coarse brushed structure. Furthermore, the bridge is fine beveled and rhodanised, each bridge has its own golden work identifying number . The balance cock is according to tradition of the old master craftsmen completely finely engraved. Each single movement is unique and intricately crafted by hand. Assembling of all components up to point of a functional movement is handcraft by Schaumburg Watch. There a lot of work steps needed , e.g. the pressing of bearing jewels, the testing of an unbalanced balance or the final fine adjustment in different positions, until the movement is finally grown to a complex watch mechanism.”
