I know most ppl consider brands like AP for example as an independent (which maybe true, depending on one's definition).

But in my mind (some may not agree), independents should really/also be less established brands who dont produce and market their watches in a large commercial scale. This can range from micro-brands / start ups (think tempest, autodromo, mkii) to mid tier (nomos, stowa) to super high end (ressence, journe, roger smith).

I presume u are talking about super high end? I havent seen one in person before, so I cant really opine, but in photos - journe looks beautiful..

Do let us know which brand you have in mind

I guess each one definition is difference, anyway I’m not referring to super high end watch rather mid range watch. The two I’m considering will be PSM and GS.

Currently I own normal Seiko watch, personal level is a huge jump for myself;probably in the range from 15-30k

Between this watch and a Toyota Vios , I get the car.

Yes, but no for the one who can afford the watch, Toyota Vios ain’t even a car to them, perhaps just a commuter. Same goes to Submariner, you can get a used car at 5k easily, if following your logic, I rather get 6 used car than a little device that do nothing more than telling time.

A brand new one cost RM 106k. So you can get a pre-owned one at lower than RM 100k.

All of us here love watches.

No normal human being will spend hours each day/week perusing watch websites/insta/forum and spend relatively obscene amount of $$ on it. Yes, this stuff is not cheap. Its kinda ridiculous to be spending this amount of money on something which most of us use our phones for - to tell the time. My wife thinks i'm nuts but I told her, every human being needs to have a sin. Better a watch than another woman - no more arguments after that  l :Laughing_on_floor:

Why we love it could be for many reasons. For some its a status symbol, or it could be brand loyalty,..  for some it's historic value - a great story, a sentimental gift, for those who are technically inclined -it could be movement or it can be pure aesthetics. Most likely its a bit of every one of those.

Like every first love, there is always THE ONE that started it all. What is your first ever grail? The one that caught your eye, and started you down this path of watch obsession?

In this topic, perhaps everyone could share very briefly THE WATCH that start it all and why. I will kickstart it. For me:-

First Love: Omega Speedy 3570.50
Why: Ive always loved a great story, and there is no better story than this- moonwatch etc.
