Ultrasonic cleaning for your watch?!?
« on: September 22, 2016, 11:39:38 AM »
I tried using ultrasonic cleaning for my wife Citizen Eco-Drive watch. The result is so good, all the dirt hide in between the stones were totally cleared out.

I wonder how about the automatic watches, is it advisable to use ultrasonic cleaner to clean? Will the micro vibration cause harms to the movement?

Kindly share your thoughts. Thanks.

There is totally no water leak into the watch.

Anyone will try the automatic movement watch?

You get yourself an ultrasonic cleaner or send to some place to clean for you?

While my wife rings were offered by the jewellery shop for a free ultrasonic cleaning complimentary service. Well since her Citizen bezel got few dusty diamonds, I just asked my wife to put her watch with the rings to clean together. ;D

Free of charge so don't waste the chance.

Totally no impact to Eco-Drive movement accuracy.

i always thought you can't put your watch in ultrasonic cause it might just kill all your seals. If you want to , you have to dismantle the movement and only the casing goes in ! I have an ultrasonic machine at home but its only for my bracelets !

My test proven that as long as your watch is water resistant enough then for those non mechanical movement watch is safe to go.

Nowadays Casio price at least RM 89. No more RM 10.

I won't recommend you put your mechanical piece in an ultrasound. The frequency could displace the jewels' axis points/effect the finely tuned balance wheel/the escape wheel pinion to misaligned etc.

Best not to chance it.

Agree.

I just hope that if there is any watch is having best shock and vibration resistance mechanical movement that is able to use the ultrasonic cleaner.

The best would invariably be a solid state type watch with digital display - a watch with no moving parts. This type would stand the best chance.

How much is one and what is the upkeep of the machine like, eg liquid, etc?

Did you buy locally or online? Thanks bro

I wouldn't want to chance using an ultrasonic cleaner with a mechanical movement.

I find using a toothbrush and some non abrasive liquid soap and then rinsing under the sink is sufficient to get really good results so I like to stick with that (it's especially useful for cleaning in crevices like under the bezel, and in between the crown guards and in the fine grooves and teeth of bezels and crowns.  Not sure if what I'm doing is dangerous or not but it works for me (only do this with your watches with good water resistance :)).
