The beauty of 14060 U series
« on: August 31, 2017, 11:52:15 AM »
I addicted to an U-series Submariner 14060 from 1997. The 14060's of the late 1990s, to me, represent the best bargain of the Sub references, though the differences are very minor (earlier caliber 3000 movement vs the 3130 upgrade). And the late U-series (1998) are easily recogniseWhy? Because in late 1998, Rolex replaced tritium with luminova, so the "T < 25" marking (which denotes the amount of tritium being emited) ,

Just stumbled upon this post ... interesting.

First of all, nice Sub ... I too love the clean & more balanced 2-liners.

Not sure if you are aware of this, but there was a small batch of "T <25" dials, which used Luminova instead of Tritium.  Rumor has it that Rolex had leftover T <25 dials during the 1997/98 transition therefore put Luminova on these dials to clear up inventory.

I believe what you have, is this relatively rare example. .. because Tritium today would never glow this brightly in the dark.  I have two U-serial GMTs that does the same.

Congrats !
