I had road tested a Hyundai Ioniq for three days and was very impressed by the way it drives, the FC and all the frills that comes with it. The one i tested was the high spec version and this car is a steal given its price tag, performance, features and the FC.

Hi There,
I am interested to get a hybrid car or electronic car. Would like to know more feedback about this car too.
Is currently the time to get a fully electronic car or is it better to get hybrid? What will be the difficulty faced by vehicle owner if getting an electronic vehicle. Is there a good recommendation for hybrid or electronic car in the market for malaysia?

many thanks!

I'm owner of Lexus CT 200h for 6 years, and have no regret owing a hybrid. The "actual" FC is 5 litre / 100 km after 6 years. I'm mostly driving around city, when on highway at legal speed, the FC can go as low as 4.5 litre / 100 km.

Just replaced my hybrid battery last month FOC. The battery warranty was 3 years at the time of purchase but Lexus gave an extension of another 5 years, hence the free replacement. It would cost RM 8k if out of warranty.

As expected before purchase, the car drove like normal petrol car when the battery was faulty.

Conclusion, I will buy another Hybrid or PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) if the price is right. M'sia Govt do have incentives for locally assembled Hybrid or PHEV or EV.

My priority will go to Toyota / Lexus, followed by Honda. Note that Honda Jazz Hybrid won "Car of the Year" award in 2017. Most importantly, they have greatly improved their Hybrid cars.

Read about Hyundai Ioniq, sounds like an impressive car but have not test drive yet.

My wish is to see a locally assembled SUV Hybrid. Honda HR-V Hybrid, perhaps.

Was told the consumption of 2.0l/100km... powerful and efficient

Bmw 330e is the only one that i have ever driven before. From what they promote, the consumption can go as low as 2.1L/100km.
I have friends who said they only need to fuel up once every 3 weeks. Not sure about their consumption though.

Personally i prefer hybrid cars as they have better torque

I had a 2013 Honda CR-Z (facelift model) which I bought for recreation/spare. A combination of the manual gearbox and the car's low stance makes it a very fun car to drive especially going around corners. In stock form, which mine is, it is not a fast car.

This Honda is an IMA Hybrid, which unlike the Toyota Prius, cannot run on electric motor alone. It is always running on engine + motor. The way I drove it, obviously the fuel consumption figures is not a priority.

Sold it to a dealer exactly on four years with only 26,000 km on the odometer with the car still under warranty. Whoever is the new owner must be a lucky guy.  :)

Using a 330e now. So far the only problem is a faulty auxillary battery which they replaced since it's still within 5 years warranty.
Same for me, my electricity bill goes up by abour rm100 ( i charge every night b4 bed).

I dont actually look at the fuel consumption. Haha. And with the power under the hood, i tend to press the pedal quite a lot. I tend to enjoy the drive. Not trying to save the earth for me. Hehe

I won't consider buying any German marquees hybrid or ev, as the cost of replacing it's battery would cost >120k, which will be out of proportion to it's then market value of an aging car.

Japanese hybrid battery is much reasonably priced @8k only

I don't know if this counts, but I rented a VW electric car awhile back for almost a week. Gotta say I had a wonderful new experience driving the heck out of it, the fun factor was definitely there. Also the issue about range anxiety was real, and planning for road trips must be carefully calculated between charging points.

IMO, if your mainly doing city driving and you have the budget, it's definitely worth it.
