It might be cheaper in Switzerland.
I bought a watch there last year, after the reduction in sales tax the price of the watch was slightly cheaper compared to Malaysia. But I'm not sure whether it applies to all Swiss brands.
Best to check the prices here and then compare it when you're there.

Happy hunting.

Heard it is cheaper in general. Was looking for the original Panerai shop in Florenze last year but couldnt find it. Ah well, poison averted...  :P

I can confirm that Tissot is definitely cheaper in Zurich compared to KL (after netting off VAT) even after the standard store (+ special) discount given in Malaysia. Got myself 2 when I was there in 2011.

The VAT rate in Switzerland is 7%. This was last year though.
Not sure about now.
The easiest would be to get the watch at the airport. The shop will minus out the VAT when you purchase the watch. So no hassle to do a VAT refund.

Bucherer is a must visit if you are planning to get a watch in Switzerland. You can expect some additional discounts apart from the VAT refund if you are willing to pay for the watch with some cash + card. Apart from being able to get your watch ( if you already own a Rolex ) checked out for free. The other fringe benefits will be burcherer souvenirs and all the watch catalogs you can carry.

Happy hunting !

Cheers

I will transit at amsterdam-schiphol airport next week. Was planning getting my first Rollies there. Looking at Sub or Exp II.
Going thru some reading on TRF forum and the comment was Gassan duty-free Rollies boutique pricing are pretty competative, especially on sports model.

Would like your feedback and experience (pricing / discount) regarding buying a watch from an Airport shop.

Cheers,
Ken.

My friend bought Rolex Exp II from Gassan at Schiphol two years ago. Very friendly sales lady at the counter. When we got back to KL, I checked out the price at the KL AD.  Definitely cheaper price (after Euro conversion) at Gassan Schiphol than the KL AD list price. Also, the KL AD quoted a premium over the list price...they said market demand!

All right boys, think i should update a bit; been to Lucerne's Bucherer and found out watches in Swiss is higher priced after discount and deducting VAT. I got this because my fren got himself a Zenith capt. winsor. After asking the price in Swiss n asking the price in malaysia he concluded that he pays less in malaysia. Well guess good news to most of us cos no need to go to Swiss to buy Swiss
Made watch.. didn't get any watch over there but brought back a few thick catalogues: Jaeger, AP, TAG, GP, Longines. ;)
