Zeo, mind to share what's the different for dimsport and revo?

takashi78, what kind of design you like?
Title: Re: VW (VAG) Owner, come and share!
Post by: takashi78 on January 04, 2012, 06:25:06 AM
My ideal would be BBS RG-F in 16in forged. But almost all shops i went to havent heard of it.

My selection so far are

BBS CH 17in
BBS CO 16/17in
Enkei RPF1 17in black
OZ Chrono HT 17in

Except for the BBS designs i prefer 5 or 6 spoke rims.

Ex-owner also welcome? A classic B5 Passat 1.8T, Wetterauer chipped. Sold in Apr '11 before I relocated to Shanghai.  :'( It's a tough people's car. It clocked 345K km (of which 220K km chipped mileage) before I passed it to the next owner, and it's still running!

My well blessed Passat captured at Hatyai in 2009:

I previously ordered all my VAG parts from Singapore and Germany without issue as I used to work in FTZ at Penang.  ;D

Zeo, mind to share what's the different for dimsport and revo?

when i was running dimsport stage 1 the gains compared to stock were pretty amazing. feels like a totally different car.
the throttle seems a lot lighter making daily driving a breeze. but my high end pull wasn't so great. after 140km/h the pull isn't strong.
same thing happens when I'm carrying 3 passengers. the pull isn't there anymore.

whereas redo stage 2 Immediately after my remap, i carried 3 passengers the car still pulls very hard. maybe because i have even more torque now ?
I have yet to drive it above 150km/h usually only doing city driving so no chance to compare the higher end.

I have yet to drive a dimsport stage 2 so i can't really give a fair comparison.
but from what i gather from other users seems like dimsport is more suited for track use
as the turbo spools a bit later. so as u enter a high speed corner u will be slightly behind other cars but on the exit no one can catch u =)

revo is more for everyday driving. over in the USA revo is the most powerful map out there and slightly cheaper than apr too.

but honestly if u don't track that often the slight differences between maps r insignificant.

I'm off to exotic mods now to check out some bodykit. =)

I bought this (APR stage 1 & 2) from USA, order online. Don't know how much it sell in Malaysia.
iirc, got it for around U$600 All in inclusive of shipping and taxes.

Very nice!
Is the air filter loud?

How was the performance increase?

Not too loud, but noticeable, minimal only. especially the divert valve sound...
If you install without remap, very minimal performance increase.
If install it with at least stage 1, you will feel the engine rev more freely. (feel lighter during acceleration)

this rims, much lighter than original Detroit, feel more agile.
I installed this rims with Eibach prokit together, so the experience must be come from both combination.

plenty of pros and cons for both models....
....brand new car vs recond Jap (probably only a 2007 model for same price), warranty vs no warranty (or limited), one is true 7 passengers carrier, the other a 5+2 carrier (depending on what's the need most of time)..

Just ordered a Golf GTI, coz of the huge discount they are offering now for Year End Sales(?) Actual reason is its great handling & reliability of the iconic hot hatch "GTi"

Seen some comments on Apr, Revo & Dimsport tuning of the Mk6 by the seniors. I wonder if these will void the VW warranty? If not, will the senior kindly pm the contact for me to do the same please? Thnak you.

Life is too short to be thinking of warranty.
That being said, if you are worried check out those racechip pro piggy back tuning boxes thingy.
U can remove if u have any warranty claim and unlike remaps, it's 100% undetectable.

Thought I'd posted, din see it, now post again.

Took delivery of the GTI 2 days ago, still hasnt get the hang of it yet. My daughter fondly labelled it as the "Black beauty". Performance is so so compare to rivals in its class, but, its handling is just incrediblly clinical. Sweet trouble ironed out 6speed DSG. Truely a driver car. Immensely enjoyable!

Now has the itch to mod with Racechip, any pro from fellow sifu?

87k. I hope the new owner takes care if it. It has never been filled RON 95 before. Has always been 97 or once a while V Power Racing fuel. Engine oil only semi synthetic or fully synthetic. The new owner sure mod the car. Less than 70k mileage. VW informed me expecting AP arriving soon for me to take delivery. Lovely. I needed a new family car. Whilst the CC is considered better looking by many, I think the Passat design is less loud. My first conti. My dad has driven Volvo his whole life. From 244 all the way to 850. Now he is driving Korean. LOL..

Heard vw cc now fitte with the 1.8 turbo charged engine instead of the 2.0 due to saving on tax to be more price competitive

N
New golf tsi debuting soon will be fitted with turbo charged 1.6 140hp engine instead of the 1.4 twin charged 1.4 160hp engine... Due to high construction cost...

Lower power engine selection is disappointing ...

VW CC and Passat CC both different. Earlier was Passat CC 2.0L engine same as Audi 2.0T but tuned differently. Then VW introduced the VW CC which all this while has been a 1.8L engine turbocharged. I don't think it's for tax savings but for CO2 emission concerns. I maybe wrong.

Whatever it is, the VW CC is still very much drivable. Torquey enough to propel u forward and fun enough to drive and it looks good. The only discomfort is the rear headroom which is low. The normal Passat Sportline CBU, if u like, go check it out, same performance as the VW CC, direct from Wolfsburg. Lovely car to drive IMHO.

Didn't really notice the power drop, but wow the car is a big difference from the mk6. The quality, the ride, the handling.. top notch! Worthy winner of ECOTY

Chris u should get a VW and hope u did not get the Camry cos they did not equip with traction control, and important safety feature, especially for that Camry price.

Yes, the mk7 is an overall much better car to drive. You definitely do not feel the difference in power (despite being a whopping 20PS down), and the car car is still able to sprint up to 180km/h easily. I quite like the new interior, although I'm not pleased with the new steering wheel button layout. Wheels? Yeah... could be bigger. Expect 17s on the 'facelift' that will eventually arrive.

Btw, my album of the mk7 Golf TSI here (https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.393136594117756.1073741828.116211298476955&type=1).

It's that due to engine tuning or the newer better injection? Hence better torque?

VWM should give us 10 year warranties as well

Anyway the article doesn't state that all vehicles are due for recall but it might give us an idea of the percentage of defects in the DSG gearbox

"Only a “few hundred” of DSG-fitted vehicles had faults that prompted driver feedback, according to a Bloomberg News interview with Harthmuth Hoffmann, a company spokesman, on May 31."

rofl few hundred out of 1mil. I find that hard to believe la. But it is the mechatronic that usually gives way, apparently some ppl are saying that the 2013 models come fitted with new mechas and clutch packs that rectify this problem already

James,

Just out of curiousity, how long did it take to service your passat CC in JB skudai? And is this a minor service or is it a full intermediate service? Did you also have to make a early appointment, prior to sending the car to the service centre?

Thanks.

As a VW owner, I have to say I did the recall campaign and have not faced any juddering issues since.

Also, no issue with booking appointment. I plan ahead and don't make last minute appointments. The follow up service is not as great as say.. Toyota, but a VW is much more fun to drive compared to japs.

I have been using Passat B6 (the last gen) from 2009 till 2013.  All good, not big issue though the car came with only 2 year warranty back then.  Had been servicing it outside.

One thing good about Passat B6 is that it's a 2.0 Turbo, and using conventional 6 speed Auto.  No DSG worries ;)

I love the appearance of MK 7 too. I had a MK V stage 2 and I must say I still miss the car till today. It's one of the most wonderful things I had ever experience back in 2004. The speed of the dual clutch DSG gearbox is just out of this world at that time. Tuned to stage 2 with close to 300hp coupled with light weight alloy wheels, BBK and sports coil over and fuel it with Shell V Power Racing and it just explodes.

Think the wet DSG6 is far more reliable than the dry DSG7. Haven't really heard of any major issues with the gearbox.

@silverstan, congrats on the GTI7! I just bought a GTI6 myself :-D would have liked the GTI7 much more, especially since it is a much more comfortable, lighter, faster car- but out of my budget so I had to compromise. Mine was unfortunately bone stock, so I had to quickly sort out the R lights (aka mandatory GTI mod  ;D).

Here's a quick pic to share, from last weekend:

Yup, pre-owned. RM123k for a 2012 July car. Part of the facelifted (so called SE batch) that includes sunroof, RCD510, DRLs, and 18" Detroits (prev no sunroof, RCD310, no DRLs, and 17" Denvers).

PGTI found a buyer; in fact going to bank to submit B5/B7/grant, etc. 3 months of listing, so I consider myself quite lucky. But then I never had any issues with my PGTI- it was daily driven and has never had any mecha/clutch/engine issues. Supposedly, the DSG7 on the PGTI was reinforced to take higher stresses.

Your Roc is a 1.4 DSG7? Have you been facing issues with it?

I subscribe to the belief that if they are occasionally driven hard, they tend to last longer. That has been the case for me so far. But having said that, I do know one owner who has had multiple clutch/mecha failures despite a heavy foot. Up till now, I do not think the actual problem has been diagnosed; just going through the motion of fixing what is broken.

My PGTI was a 2011 Oct car- primarily selling as warranty is coming up, but also because Golf GTI prices have taken a significant hit, and is within budget. It was an almost impulse thing for me. My GTI6 is almost similar in age to my PGTI, but definitely has better peace of mind. Not to mention a lot more windows for upgrades :o

The car was a private sale, from a seller in PG. I traveled up north (co-incidentally in the GTI7) to see the car in person. I've had the privilege of testing a fair number of VWs and Golfs for that matter, but have never actually spent any time testing the GTI6. But, having seen the car in person- condition was up to expectation, seller seemed honest, and I checked on car's provenance by calling up all the relevant service centers in PG.

My PGTI is also a private sale; believe it or not via LYN forums. My third car being sold off there :D

First time I shared some pics of my PGTI in here, it was being waxed (bonus foot on car :D). This time, also wax but minus foot.

Being prepped for hibernation. Going to miss the little pocket rocket, it was (and still is!) a hoot to drive. Definitely much more perky than its bigger sibling, although lacking in the power department. I think 220hp with stiffer, wider rears would be perfect. But of course, not willing to take the risk of a stronger map due to the infamous issues that the DSG7 is famous for. Instead, I went with a custom map to eke out more oompfh in the mid-range, where the car seems to be lacking.

2012 car shouldn't it be 2+3 years? 2013 and after would be 3+2 years iirc? Or already 3+2? Either way, you have until 2017. Residuals are very poor at this time; most Polo/Golf/Passat used prices are quite hard to stomach for many first owners. Not sure about Roc; hopefully not as bad!

Btw stan, I remember seeing your thread on VCM before. I remember it was done up quite nicely. Can share some pics here? What was year and sale price, if you don't mind me asking?

As for the car price, my car was purchased and used at other country, so not really can make as reference. It's around 40% off from the price i purchased. MY12, so its year 2011.

Pre-facelift mk6 GTI had 17" Denvers.
Facelifted mk6 GTI had 18" Detroits, along with DRL, sunroof, RCD510. But also removed the TPMS.

No wonder, they up-sized the rims cause I've always thought it was 17" but a bit confused when occasionally seeing one with 18" instead.

I was just wondering, won't it be better to stick to 17" for better acceleration & ride quality?
17" wrapped with 225/45/17 would be smaller, thus, lighter & sits lower, no?
Title: Re: VW (VAG) Owner, come and share!
Post by: r3kahsttub on February 04, 2016, 11:13:48 AM
Theoretically, out on track, you could shave off several tenths off your lap time if you went with 17" over 18". In fact, if you went with wider, gripper 235/40/17, you may slice off even more.

Out on public roads, you rarely see or feel the difference. It is merely aesthetics; until it comes time to pay for rubbers. And then your pockets feel the twang.
Title: Re: VW (VAG) Owner, come and share!
Post by: dertwert on February 04, 2016, 01:14:02 PM
Have you fitted 235/40/17 before? My tyre guy says it will scrape the fenders or perhaps it can mitigated with coilovers.

18" should be almost RM 200 more than the 17", each.

Hi All,

Use to own a VW Polo GTI.

Drives quick. Easy to go fast.

Had loads of fun with it.

If only the DSG, the engine, the sensors, the radiator, the sparkplugs , the megatronic..did not give any issue.

With the prices they are today, its really bang for your buck car to have.

Any proud owners of passat cc? Both 2.0 and 1.8. Advisable to buy one? Any long term issues?

My staff bought a 2010 unit after listening to my persuasive speech for the car. It's almost a year now and it's still all good. Do take care of the fluids maintenance and I think it should be okay. Interior bits seems to not very durable as fabrics roof starts to sag and etc.
