Interesting comparison that you have there... If i were to add anything into it, maybe i would add seiko mm300 (sbdx017) as an alternative to rolex submariner.

But this maybe obvious to some, but I will state it anyways to the benefit of others... the list offers alternative to rolex (in terms of design). However, it is impossible to compare this if we look into other important factors (especially resell value or build quality)

i think it is all about resale value.
Quality wise some are equal or even surpass Rolex. (exception to Seiko but GS is another story)...

If referring to resale value, then its hard. Cause some watches like Omega speedmaster (not limited edition) or Omega Planet Ocean loses a lot in terms of after sales. Even I may go extreme to say that even some Grand Seiko model also suffer.

But rolex and others like PP or AP can hold their resale value. For eg, Batman in March is RM 42k and now it is at RM 48k. You can say that you dont want Rolex cause of the premium but in reality, it is one of the watch that has a stronger resell value

Rolex sports model is not cheap but you don't loose your money..you could even get profit if you keep it and sell in in future

As you say RRP but reality is RRP + Premium.
If I am able to get it at RRP I will flip it and buy 1 x 4xk range watch or 2 x 2xk range watch to add to my collection for show or for wear.  :Laughing_on_floor: and take the depreciation but enjoy the watches...

But that is me la... because I really cannot wear 40mm watch on my wrist (7.5in)

I think Tudor sports models are good contenders. Some exclusive models are also selling at crazy prices in secondary market like Harrod's Black Bay Green and Bucherer's Bronze Blue. I believe their resale value won't be too bad due to high demand for Black Bays.

Question is, could you? No offense but most common people can't get it (you could join a waiting list but to you have to wait long long), or if you travel often and lucky, you can score a unit at airport.

I put my name in local AD and was my turn... Only to be disappointed by a sudden Rolex memo that sport model require buyer to buy the unpopular model (worth rm 100k) before I can get a sport model... Dunno how true is that but you can't argue with the AD, right?

No such memo form Rolex. Is the tactic by the ADs

In the end, what could you do? Complain to Rolex and loose again your queue in the list? That why not everyone can buy at retail. Either you are someone or knows someone, or lucky then you can get at retail...

But going back to the original TS question... Would you agree that the list is accurate? Knowing that TS is also looking at resell value

So begs the question. Why succumb to this tactics.. and pay above list price... (yes i hear this a million times where the watch will appreciate bla bla bla, resale value and etc...) but at the end of the day are you buying what you want or what everybody wants... Yes you may have the rolex sports collection but so does plenty of other people. So buying it for the sake of resale value or you really like it...

The only one I really like is the Daytona. The rest I would look for alternative like seasmaster, gs dive and etc... Along my journey I realize I choose watches because of mechanical over brand and that is why I settled with Zenith, JLC, Omega and GS... You really cannot beat this bunch in terms of mechanical over engineering. I just started collecting 90 days ago and the way Rolex plays the desire and emotion of the people thereby creating the supply and demand issue. My advise buy 2 other different watches over the price of 1 premium rolex or better yet get a superior model for the same price you are paying RRP + Premium and the world will be a much more colourful place... my 2 cents...
