Great street photography Scott.
What's your technique for getting a sharp focus on your subjects? Did you pre-focus before grabbing the shots?

This one looks like a scene from a John Woo movie.

Well done.

Thanks Danny ;)

I usually set the aperture to around f/4 or f/5.6 and focus around 3m if i want to get a quick shot (when have limited time to focus).. then when i see something attracted me, i quickly turn the focus ring to get the closer/better focus before the subject move away... since the aperture is set to f/4 or f/5.6, even if i'm not able to get a perfect focus on the subject (in this case, the man), i should still get a clear/sharp result on what I trying to focus.. but, sometimes i do get lucky even when i shot wide open (in this case, i'm using Nokton 50mm f/1.1) ;)

Let's come out one day we do some shooting

The M9 is great for street shooting, silent, rather compact size.
If people see a dslr they would be thinking wtf? LOL.
Scott or anyone, organize one and i will join!

Honestly, i think for street photography, any point-and-shoot can do the job nicely ;) in my opinion, most important for street shooting is about how much story i wanna tell in my frame and how people interpret the story ;) very very subjective.. and also, i only have maybe less then a second to trigger the shutter, if i missed, that it ;( that's the challenging part really... also, with a good pair of shoe, in case someone chasing you :D kakakak.. kidding!!

Organize what? Street shooting?

A few suggestions :
1) Dataran Merdeka area - can shoot the old buildings surrounding Dataran Merdeka
2) Brickfields - theme is holy site; coz' one can find churches, Hindu/Budhist/Chinese temples nearby
3) Taman Tasik Perdana (Lake Garden) - nature theme
4) Putrajaya - subject is the administrative building around Putrajaya

I agree with your following comments:
1) Any P&S will do just fine.
2) As for street shooting, the theme and story is very subjective.
3) Street shooting, one has to take the shot fast as within seconds, the right frame and timing may be gone and there is no second shot.

I am game for a street shooting (around Klang valley) if ever there is one organised for MWF members.

I have totally opposite opinion than Scott.
To me street photography doesn't need to "tell a story". For me is just candid moments.
Very subjective yes.
I think if one is skillful enough even their handphone can be used everyday.

If there is a planned "location and theme" then imo defeats the purpose of street photography.

No right no wrong..but in general...it started of by recording what happen in the street, be it a building or the people or a scene (like 2 man picking nose using the same hand, etc)... but i can tell you, street photography can/will have theme/title and a story behind ;)

if you read a bit more on street photography you will see why :) but then again, it's very subjective in the sense that each of the reader will have its own interpretation on the photo that they reading/viewing... some gets what the photographer trying to tell some don't; some see something else which the photographer might not even aware of... to me, that's the beauty of it

Count me in if anyone is organizing a photo shoot.

Scott,
Can't wait to test your Nokton 50mm f1.1.
Do remember to bring it along when we next meet.

When I walk the streets with a camera in hand I find it hard to shoot people straight in the face, so generally I end up just taking pictures of static objects.
For example I took the following pictures during a recent trip to Bangkok. Taken using a Lomo LC-A+ with high speed film. I guess my kind of street photography can be more accurately classified as "urban landscape":
