Watch looking too big on YOUR wrist?
« on: October 28, 2017, 04:42:18 PM »
You might really want a particular watch model and try to convince yourself that your chicken-leg-sized-wrist can handle it but can you really?

What tells you that this is definitely not for you? Negative reviews from friends/family, forum members commenting that it looks good on your girlfriend’s wrist (oups sorry it is yours...), discomfort, honest salesman (they do exist), self evaluation looking at wrist shots, ...?

(Random google images even though there are plenty of examples on the forum)

I observed the trend of big watches is like coming to end.

Why in the first place ppl go for big watches? I guess when brands like Panerai worn by some macho actors ppl then imitate and the trend started.

Now consumers slowly getting use to the huge watches wanted to change the trend back to those classic size.

I remember in the 80s the watches are much smaller maybe 34mm and so does the neck ties which is very thin.

I think the big watch trend is changing.

For Asian wrist which is comparatively smaller than the caucasian, the Asian has disadvantage with bigger watches.

I think for the next 5 years the watch size will shrink in general

So what is good enough for you? For example, do the latest posts under “What is on your wrist” look good to you?

Not just the size. The thickness is important too.

For decent dress watch, any thickness less than 10mm would be very nice.

Guilty as charged. Went through the huge watch size phase some years back, got back into my comfortable 36-42mm genre; but somehow found myself collecting towards bigger sizes again (although I draw the line at max 45.5mm, and that too because the PO Chrono only comes in that size). Having said that, I saw your wrist shot of the D-Blue as it did looked relatively big on your wrist; but give it some time and once you get used to it, you'd feel very strange when you slip on a 36mm.

Personally i think the big watches give this sporty rugged look and i always seem to steer in that direction. So they’re not meant to be dressy. But i do wear my watches with my suits cos hey that’s my style..

I believe quite a numbers of season hobbyist went through the huge watch size phase... I am one of them...I used to have plenty of 44mm and 47mm watches and now I left with one only...most of my watches now are 36-42mm also..

I am one of them who used to think I can pull off 44mm-47mm. Failed max  :Laughing_on_floor:

Well even at 42mm, I can barely make it. Now most of my watches are at 36mm-40mm. Prefer to wear something that suits me rather than trying too hard with a big watch. Different people different preferences I guess.

For me I think the way i judge if a watch is too big for me is that lug to lug does not protrude out from my wrist.

I think the best size for me is 42-44mm watch or 50-55mm lug to lug

I agree. My Rolex Sub ND to be honest with myself if slightly on the large side for my skinny wrist. But it looks perfect if i swap out the bracelet for a leather nato. Sometimes in all in the watch strap!

Agree that strap vs. bracelet can very much change the perception of how big a watch is.

Meor,

I am beginning to feel 45mm is a bit too big. I think 60mm is like wearing a bucket...

Don't like big watches due to my tiny wrist. 35mm to 41mm max
