The sleeping legend. Rolex Datejust
« on: June 28, 2016, 03:28:32 PM »
One legendary piece, very visible on many watch lovers' wrist but often neglected and not talked much about and noticed them missing in many of the avid collectors group shots.

It is undoubtedly one the best selling model in the Rolex line ups.  So.. why?

Here are some wrist shots of my own white dial Datejust. Enjoy!

Can't go wrong with a datejust...not appreciated enough with all the big 45mm watches now in trend.

Indeed. I have one of them and its an understated time piece. Real classic look, Alas, wrist time for it is very little now due to other watches but will always wear it a few times a month.

The DJ is always the de-facto dress watch with its fluted bezel and classic dial. Had the pleasure of owning a vintage from the 70s (and it just kept on ticking), and current-period ones with the better bracelet construction. I would opine that it has the gentleman 36mm size, which was just right. Leave the up-sized cases to the sports watches, just keep the 36mm DJ and 40mm DD line-up clean and classic, Rolex

I've tried DJ 36mm two tone, like the design but can't seem to pull the trigger because it's just too small for today's standard. The current 41mm is definitely would be one of my collection one day.

I think the rolex datejust is the perfect size as it has a beefy lug to lug unlike some vintage 34-36mm dress watches.

The datejust was designed as the ultimate dress watch and all rounder watch. It is very versatile and I couldn't be more happy with a pie-pan.

Also, I think the time of large watches are over. It's a fashion trend which I think needs to die. Ppl should appreciate more minute movements and watches.

The only watch that should be larger than 36mm is divers and fliegers IMO.

Wow great to see so many datejust enthusiasts! Im not alone . Happened to check out the datejust 2, I think it looks too huge for its style. Disporportioned.
Well, that is just me though.

Morning All,

I am  a fan of the DJ. The DJ 2 in my opinion is just a little big. I guess Rolex had to cater to the market looking for bigger dress watches. For me the 34 to 36 mm DJ/ 6694/ 1500 size is a good dress watch size.

Having said that, I wouldn't mine a DJ with Diamonds at 39 to 41 mm...hhe...

Hv a good work week all!

Never an old man watch. After all the fancy huge watches. This feels most comfortable and subtle on wrist. A must have in the collection when you feel overwhelmed at times
Wear in good health! Awesome dial.

I think with the Datejust, youngsters will be like ewwww.... Ah Pek style... (I know I did)
Then fast forward a decade... suddenly the Datejust will start to look classy.
Dig deeper... then it will all make sense...

I believe that this is true for all Rolex watches. The younger ones will go like "yucks" or "cheh"...Rolex. I can buy many more "better" watches with that money. And then foolishly goes ahead and buys a different brand. Only to regret it like crazy and then eventually go back to Rolex ten years down the road. My own experience la...as for the DJ? It is the all time quintessential watch that has not gone our of style for a distinguished gentleman. Classic, durable, tough and timeless...

Very true.

Particularly for the infamous cyclop on Rolex, that's the instant perception by many youngsters Rolex is meant for old folks . But I think the truth is that Rolex has foresight.

My Hyperopia develops unknowingly earlier at 40yo. I find my Rolex is the most comfortable and easy to read and wear watches nowadays.
