Looking for a gd mountain bike to cycle around my house
Budget rm1k
Any recommendation? Brand n model? Shop?
-
avoid raleigh / find a used merida
-
if you are never intending to go offroad, a converted road bike@commuter bike is more faster, comfortable and lighter.
get a used road bike made with good steel and convert the handlebars to risers. you'll get a great solid comfortable bike that might just turn you to a roadie.

Raleigh no gd? Bought my wife a mini 2 mths ago... Not bad quality woh...
-
most consumer run of the mill bikes now are direct OEM bikes ordered from a catalogue off the factories in China, Indo or Taiwan. just slap on your own stickers and call it your own.
you can get some real bargain if you know what you are looking for and might even find some gems like old lugged road frames with reynolds or columbus steel.

A member above asked you to avoid but yet you go ahead and bought it anyways?
I remember as a kid i had a Singer bike. I tot it was a sewing machine brand LOL.
But it got stolen as i went in to coffee shop to buy chicken rice.
Good memories of that bike.
Flew off it once landing on my jaw!
Til today when i open my mouth wide open there is a crack sound haih.

Chris, get one with aluminium frame to save weight, front and rear shocks for comfort, front and rear disc brake for instant stop. there is a shop call "sew leong" (tel - 3372 6539) along the main road to port klang (left side) after the klang traffic police and before la salle school. good selection and fair price.
-
Do not get any suspension system if you are not intending to go off road. Rear suspensions are the worse.
Also cheap suspension systems are crap and you might feel like you are riding a pogo stick. Constantly bouncing up and down as u pedal. Waste energy and uncomfortable. Just like driving a soft 4x4 and accelerating on the expressway.
Aluminum frames are only good for smooth bump free roads cause its quite a harsh ride. On the flip side, it's he cheapest and lightest consumer bikes.
If you are serious in a MTB then a used Rockhopper or Stumpjumper is quite decent. Atleast that was a entry level good bikes 10 years ago. Left the MTB scene too long

Thnx... Heard a gd shop at dengkil as well

Actually cable actuated disc brakes are not any better than conventional vee brakes. A normal V brakes would suffice. Less hassle, easier maintenance and cheaper. Stopping power is the same.
Hard emergency braking is dangerous, just like driving. Situational awareness of your surroundings is better.
For a recreational ride, get a good frame with decent components. Upgrade or sell later down the road if you are serious.
-
terrenceterrence is correct that the soft suspension can ruin your ride. the good ones you can adjust to stiffen the rebound. if you like disc brakes, get those that uses hydraulic fluid instead of cables. not sure if they have ABS.
-
So a gd frame with hydraulic brake gd gear
With only front suspension...
What will be the budget ? Rm1k enuf?
-
ABS on a mountain bike?
-
No lar hydraulic disc brakes only on fast and heavy downhill bikes. Even that the brakes are quite useless... Cause hard braking would make u fly. Brakes are always to slow u down for you t execute ur next judgement/move

In that case, just get a normal Polygon bike. Made in Indo if not mistaken. OEM bikes

I still remember when i flew off my bike when i was young.
Landed jaw down !
Then the bike landed ON me!
Didnt break of dislocate it though. Only when i push my bike home can see a trail of blood coming from my knees LOL.
But til today when i open my jaw wide open there is a "cracking" sound.

I have a fren dealing in MTB in kuantan. They seem to be more active there compare to other part in Msia i guess?
