My daughter has gone away to study. Got her sim card. Thinking of utilising it on another phone as a backup. My requirements are as follows:
. Smartphone
. <Rm1k
. Good battery life
. to be use primarily for Waze/whatsapp
Apple phones are definitely out of the picture. However, I am open suggestions.

I've had a couple of affordable smartphones that I used for my overseas SIM cards. Tried the lower-end Samsung ones but the camera was not so sharp. Xiaomi is very value-for-monies as a phone (I have 4 of these) but the Malaysian SC sucks big time. If something broke down, they would require a month or two to order the spare parts in (they don't stock them enough locally, and that was why I started with 2 Xiaomi Mi4i phones but bought an additional 2 when the first 2 broke down and had to be kept at the SC for 1-2 months). Huawei has been faring very well thus far- I had the P8 and recently started using P9 too, as the Leica camera was pretty good. For RM1k, I would recommend you look at Huawei ones.

If you haven't got your phone yet,try the samsung A5(2016).
Good battery life and pretty good specs too.
The outlook is stunning, with gorrilla glass back and front.
I'm having one right now

Hi
I have been using the Xiomi Redmi Note 3 32 GB and its great. Runs Android Version 6.0.1 with 3GB RAM. Enough for daily use and some occasional videos.
Screen is a 5.5 inch. I do not think it is a OLED but it is sufficient as it is clear and fluid.
Battery life is excellent with its 4000 maH battery so it lasts at least a day with multi tasking.
It cost around RM 800 for a new set.
No complains at all.

If you don't mind to top-up a little bit more, you can consider getting Huawei P9 Lite, the battery life is great and it has a good camera if you like taking photos.

I used Xiaomi but i don't know, i didn't like it. It kept getting some adult advertising and it really bother me.
